Troubleshooting
Common issues and solutions for Plan Count.
Large PDFs Loading Slowly
Plan Count automatically adapts to your device's capabilities:
How it works:
- Thumbnails load progressively as you scroll (not all at once)
- Device RAM is detected to adjust loading behavior
- Low-memory devices use smaller buffers for smooth performance
- A progress bar appears for PDFs with 20+ pages
Tips for large PDFs:
- Wait for the progress bar to complete before scrolling quickly
- On slower devices, scroll gradually to allow thumbnails to load
- The page viewer uses lazy loading - only visible pages render
Memory tiers:
| Device RAM | Buffer Size | Concurrent Renders |
|---|---|---|
| < 4GB (Low) | 1 page | 2 |
| 4-8GB (Medium) | 2 pages | 4 |
| > 8GB (High) | 3 pages | 6 |
Symbols Not Detected
If expected symbols aren't being detected:
Check the PDF type - Plan Count works with vector PDFs (CAD exports). Scanned/image PDFs won't have detectable text.
Verify the pattern - Click on a detection rule to see the regex pattern. Common issues:
- Case sensitivity (patterns are case-sensitive)
- Missing variations (e.g.,
L1vsL-1)
Check if rule is enabled - Disabled rules show with a strikethrough in the sidebar.
Use Discovery Wizard - The wizard shows all unique text patterns found in your PDF, helping you create accurate rules.
Export Issues
PDF export blank or missing overlays:
- Ensure you have detections visible before exporting
- Check that zones are set to "visible" if you expect zone overlays
CSV missing data:
- CSV only includes symbols within visible zones
- Page exclusions affect what's included in exports
Browser Compatibility
Plan Count works best with modern browsers:
| Browser | Minimum Version | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome/Edge | 90+ | Full support including memory API |
| Firefox | 88+ | Full support |
| Safari | 14+ | Full support |
Chrome recommended for the best experience with large PDFs (memory monitoring enabled).
