Appearance
Save Indicator
The save indicator shows you the current save status of your project. It appears in the header area when you have a project open.
Save States
The indicator displays one of five states:
Saved (Green)
Saved 2m ago
All changes have been saved to the cloud. The timestamp shows when the last save occurred.
Unsaved Changes (Amber)
Unsaved changesSave
You have made changes that are not yet saved. Click Save or press Ctrl+S (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+S (Mac) to save immediately.
Saving (Orange)
Saving...
Your project is being saved to the cloud. This typically takes 1-2 seconds.
Save Failed (Red)
Save failedRetry
The save operation failed, usually due to a network issue. Click Retry to try again.
Data Protection Warning (Amber Shield)
Save paused - Verify changes
Auto-save has been paused because a large number of detections were suddenly removed. This protection prevents accidental data loss.
Click the shield icon to see your options:
- Force Save Anyway - Confirms the changes were intentional and saves immediately
- Reload Project - Discards local changes and reloads the last saved version from the server
Auto-Save Integrity Protection
Plan Count includes built-in protection against accidental data loss. If your detections suddenly drop from a large count (20 or more) to almost none (fewer than 2), auto-save pauses automatically.
Why This Protection Exists
Catastrophic detection loss can happen accidentally when:
- A detection rule is deleted that matched most symbols
- A rule pattern is changed, causing it to stop matching
- An inclusion zone is accidentally deleted
- A software bug causes unexpected detection removal
Without this protection, auto-save could overwrite your good data with the corrupted state before you notice the problem.
When Protection Triggers
The protection activates when both conditions are met:
- Your project previously had 20 or more detections
- The count suddenly drops to fewer than 2 detections
Small changes (like deleting a few detections manually) will not trigger this protection.
What to Do When You See the Shield
If the deletion was intentional (you meant to clear all detections):
- Click the shield icon
- Click Force Save Anyway
- Your changes will save normally
If the deletion was accidental (you didn't mean to lose detections):
- Click the shield icon
- Click Reload Project
- Your project will reload from the last saved state
Visual Behavior
When protection is active:
- The save icon changes to a pulsing amber shield
- Auto-save is paused until you take action
- Manual save (Ctrl+S / Cmd+S) is also blocked
- A tooltip explains why saves are paused
How Auto-Save Works
Plan Count automatically saves your project to protect your work:
| Behavior | Description |
|---|---|
| Auto-save interval | Every 30 seconds when changes exist |
| Manual save | Press Ctrl+S / Cmd+S anytime |
| Click to save | Click the Save link in the indicator |
| Page leave warning | Browser warns if you try to leave with unsaved changes |
What Triggers "Unsaved Changes"
The following actions mark your project as having unsaved changes:
- Adding, moving, or deleting detections
- Creating, editing, or deleting detection rules
- Drawing, editing, or deleting zones
- Adding, editing, or deleting annotations (cloud boxes, text, highlights)
- Drawing or editing linear measurement paths
- Changing page legend settings
- Excluding or including pages
Compact Indicator
In some views, you may see a compact version that shows only the icon (no text). Hover over the icon to see the full status in a tooltip.
| Icon | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green checkmark | All changes saved |
| Amber cloud with arrow | Unsaved changes (click to save) |
| Orange spinning arrow | Saving in progress |
| Red exclamation | Save failed (click to retry) |
| Pulsing amber shield | Data protection active (click for options) |
Tips
- Save before exporting: Always ensure your work is saved before generating a PDF or CSV export
- Check before closing: Look at the indicator before closing the browser tab
- Network issues: If saves keep failing, check your internet connection
- Conflict detection: If someone else edited the same project while you were working, a conflict warning modal will appear asking you to reload
- Shield icon: If you see the pulsing shield, review your detections before choosing to save or reload
